The need for Conscious Internet Visibility is a reflection of a rising shift in consumer priority from product to the character of the people behind it. A new book by Chris Arnold, Ethical Marketing & The New Consumer, reflects that today’s conscious shoppers are just as concerned with values as value. Clicking on the book will take you to Amazon, where you can look inside or purchase it.

This is the beginning of the age of the Conscious Consumer who wants their choices of products or services to help them thrive above the blur of an evermore frenetic and overwhelming society. They demand this from both the offline brick and mortar stores and online offerings and from the thousands of online communication channels that now populate the Web, as well as the multitude that emerge daily.

So in reality, we informationistas on the Internet are doing ” online marketing” to our audience, whether promoting website content, podcasting, sharing videos, blogging, or offering coaching on membership sites. We share ethical responsibility with our offline brethren, just as much as a Walmart or Costco. As Chris points out in his book, we all ignore this at our collective peril. Being British, he explains it in this most alliterative fashion, “..using the pound in their pocket to make a point, not just a purchase.”

If you’re a marketer, internet user or want just be an informed consumer, this timely book is recommended reading. It’ll soon be on my bookshelf!

When I was in school, for Science Class, this Digital Immigrant made a paper mache’ volcano that erupted Talcum powder.

OK, I’m a late reader and just came across Marc Prensky’s papers on Digital Natives and Immigrants. Clearly, I’m a Digital Immigrant, as my bio attests, but at least an excited and engaged one.
As a kid, I was the runt picked last for the team – talk about feeling left out! From where I stand, now it isn’t only about Internet SEO and online promo muscle; this Web’s got soul and the Natives are restless.
So we Digital Immigrants need to get conscious and upshift to meet the Natives on their playgrounds, where the good games are goin’ on.
One of those games I want to play is what Mark Andersen talks about when he says, “Video is the new text.”
While working on a link page of online tools and other links for my flash drive while I’m on the road with the trusty laptop, I came across ustream.tv and was immediately hooked. I rode along with a trucker in Tennessee, then I watched a Lucasfilm illustrator creating new drawings.
My mind started racing as I considered what my live show would be…

When I was a kid, I built a Heathkit low power AM radio transmitter, and set up a studio in the attic storeroom – my “station,” WJSB, featured a daily music/talk show and I even had phone requests from a couple of my few listeners. Then my friends reported a black van sporting government tags and a roof antenna pointing my way driving around the neighborhood. Sadly, I went off the air and my radio career came to an end.
Now I can be “live and in person” with a just a vidcam, mic, and hopefully, a good idea. I can be anyone from Walter Cronkite to Conan O’Brien, if I have the beef to back it up.
I don’t know what I’ll come up with for show material or even when I’ll come up with it.
Gimme a break; I just got back to the future from hanging out in that attic studio.
